Northwell Health Sleep Center & Hidden Cameras

A former employee of Northwell Health admitted to installing hidden cameras in bathrooms at Northwell Health Sleep Disorders Center and STARS Rehabilitation in Great Neck, New York.

Sanjai Syamaprasad, a sleep technician, disguised the spy cameras as smoke detectors and placed them in 9 bathrooms, secretly recording staff and patients. The recordings spanned from 2022 to 2024 and may have captured footage of over 13,000 victims.

“Patients who enter medical facilities expect and deserve their privacy to be protected, especially inside of sensitive locations like bathrooms. This defendant, a medical professional himself, violated the trust that patients hold in these institutions and the people who care for them with his sickening behavior.”

– Anne Donnelly, Nassau County District Attorney

After the privacy breach was discovered, Northwell notified law enforcement and sent letters to those who may have been affected. The incident has led to criminal charges and multiple lawsuits against both Syamaprasad and Northwell Health.

By filing a Northwell Health hidden camera lawsuit, victims may be able to hold the medical facility accountable and seek compensation for the emotional distress and violation of privacy they endured. Get started with a free case review.

Sanjai Syamaprasad Pleads Guilty in Northwell Sleep Center Case

In April 2024, Sanjai Syamaprasad, a former overnight technician at Northwell Sleep Center, was arrested after the facility reported his behavior to police. He pleaded guilty to secretly recording patients and staff in restroom areas at two Northwell facilities in July 2025.

Sanjai Syamaprasad pleaded guilty to:

  • 5 counts of unlawful surveillance
  • 2 counts of tampering with physical evidence

Despite the seriousness of the crimes and prosecutors’ request for jail time, Judge Meryl Berkowitz offered Syamaprasad probation. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.

Donnelly had asked that Syamaprasad receive 1 to 3 years of jail time for each count, or up to 21 years total, arguing that the plea deal doesn’t properly punish the sleep tech for violating the victims’ privacy. Sentencing is scheduled for September 15.

“This case deserved jail time. It’s not a one-off. It’s not one time, one night he did this. It was night after night after night, victim after victim after victim.”

– Anne Donnelly, Nassau County District Attorney

Syamaprasad is also being investigated in connection with similar unlawful surveillance activities at a Weill Cornell sleep center in Manhattan.

Multiple class action lawsuits have been filed against both Syamaprasad and Northwell Health. For many, filing a Northwell Health hidden camera lawsuit is about more than money — it’s a chance to seek justice and a sense of control after a serious violation of trust.
